The first technical information about the Snapdragon X2 Elite, which will be the new member of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite series developed for Windows devices, has emerged. The new chipset, codenamed SC8480XP, can offer a significant leap in both core count and memory support compared to the current generation.
Snapdragon X2 Elite will break a record with its core count
The Snapdragon X Elite series has featured processors with a maximum of 12 cores to date. However, the new generation Snapdragon X2 Elite will have an 18-core structure. According to the latest information, it seems that the processor will be paired with 64 GB of RAM. This level means a configuration never seen before by Qualcomm in Windows-based portable computers.
The chip will use cores based on the Oryon V3 architecture. This new architecture aims to increase performance. It was also stated that the processor was designed with the SiP (System in Package) architecture. In this approach, components such as RAM and SSD are directly integrated into the processor package.
This reduces power consumption and physical space usage, while providing a significant increase in system performance. However, this design prevents users from upgrading the RAM or storage on the device.
The new processor may be introduced at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit event on September 23. With its new generation technical features, Snapdragon X2 Elite will strengthen Qualcomm’s competition in the non-x86 Windows processors field. So what do you think about this?
